The writing tab on the ribbon bar is split into five groups:
Novel writing
This group of commands enables you to manage your novel. It provides access to the
wizards used to add chapters, characters and so on. In addition it enables you to
show a dialog displaying your overall progress to date.

Novel details

Shows the novel details page where you can change
the title, estimated word count, and synopsis of your novel. The novel details page
also allows you to compare your progress to your goals and to update your personal
details which can be added to your cover letter,
title page, and your
synopsis.

Add chapter
|
Shows the add chapter wizard which allows you to add
a new chapter to your novel.
|
|
Add diagram
|
Shows the add diagram wizard which allows you to add
a new diagrams, family tree or corkboard to your novel.
|
|
Add event
|
Shows the add event wizard which allows you to add a
new event to your novel.
|
|
Add character
|
Shows the add character wizard which allows you to
add a new character to your novel.
|
|
Add place
|
Shows the add place wizard which allows you add a new
place to your novel.
|
|
Add thing
|
Shows the add thing wizard which allows you to add a
new a new 'thing' to your novel.
|
|
Progress
|
Shows the progress dialog which allows you to compare
your progress to date with your original writing goals. It also displays the readability
and reading age of all of your chapters so that you can make sure your writing is
at the correct level. This is especially useful when writing for children.

Editing
This group of commands is only enabled when you are currently editing a
chapter or section. It provides basic word processing facilities which you
will be familiar with from any number of other applications including cut, copy
and paste. In addition it enables you to add images to your chapter text and page
breaks.

Undo
|
Undoes the last change you made to your text.
|
|
Redo
|
Redoes the last change you undid with the undo button.
|
|
Paste
|
Pastes from the clipboard into your document.
|
|
Cut
|
Cuts the current selection from your document to the clipboard.
|
|
Copy
|
Copies the current selection to the clipboard.
|
|
Add image
|
Inserts an image into your document
|
|
Page break
|
Inserts a page break into your document
|
Font
This group of commands is only enabled when you are currently editing a
chapter or section. It provides basic character formatting commands such
as the ability to change the size, font, colour of what you're typing.

Font
|
Changes the font face of the selection to the selected font.
|
|
|
Font size
|
Changes the font size of the selection.
|
|
Bold
|
Make the selected text bold.
|
|
Italic
|
Italicize the selected text.
|
|
Underline
|
Underline the selected text.
|
|
Strike through
|
Draw a line through the middle of the selected text.
|
|
Subscript
|
Create small letters below the script baseline.
|
|
Superscript
|
Create small letters above the line of text.
|
|
Grow font
|
Increases the font size.
|
|
Shrink font
|
Decreases the font size.
|
|
Font
|
Shows the font dialog which allows you to change the font of the selected text.
|
|
Font colour
|
Changes the foreground colour of the selection.
|
|
Text highlight colour
|
Makes the text look like it was marked with a highlighter pen.
|
Paragraph
This group of commands is only enabled when you are currently editing a
chapter or section. It provides paragraph formatting commands such as the
ability to set the line spacing and alignment of everything you are typing in the
current paragraph.

Align text left
|
Aligns the text in the selection or current paragraph to the left of the page.
|
|
Centre
|
Aligns the text in the selection or current paragraph to the centre of the page.
|
|
Align text right
|
Aligns the text in the section or current paragraph to the right of the page.
|
|
Justify
|
Aligns text to both left and right margins, adding extra space between words as
necessary. This creates a clean look along both the left and right sides of the
page.

|
Show / hide paragraph marks
|
Shows or hides the paragraph marks and other hidden formatting symbols.
|
|
Paragraph
|
Shows the paragraph formatting dialog.
|
|
Numbering
|
Start a numbered list.
|
|
Bullets
|
Start a bulleted list.
|
|
Multilevel list
|
Start a multilevel list.
|
|
Decrease indent
|
Decrease the indent level of the paragraph.
|
|
Increase indent
|
Increase the indent level of the paragraph.
|
Searching and spelling
This group of commands is only enabled when you are currently editing a
chapter or section. This group of commands allows you to search / replace,
spell-check and check the readability of the text in the current chapter or section.

Find
|
Allows you to search for some text within the currently open chapter or section.
|
|
Replace
|
Allows you to replace text within the currently open chapter or section.
|
|
Spell check
|
Performs spell checking on the currently open chapter or section. You can add words
MyNovel does not recognize to the custom dictionary. This is in addition to the
spell checking done as you type. To change the spell checking language, open the
preferences dialog.

|
Readability
|
Evaluates the readability and reading age of the currently open chapter or section.
The results are displayed in the readability dialog.
|
|
