Working with the word processor
|
When you select a chapter or section in the
novel explorer, the word processor is automatically opened. Buttons on the
writing tab within the ribbon bar
are also activated so that you can format your text. In addition, the
properties window displays properties for the current chapter or section
so that you can amend them.
Views
There are three kinds available to you while writing - simple, draft
and print layout. You can access these by clicking the relevant button at
the bottom of the workspace. In print layout you actually see a page (which
you may prefer - especially when using clutterless editing) upon which you type.
In simple mode the text editor ignores any page margins. This is the default
mode and similar to prior versions of MyNovel.
Zooming
You can zoom your document using the slider at the bottom of the workspace. This
is useful if the text is too small for you, or if you have a visual impairment.
Clutterless editing
You may prefer to work full-screen, hiding all of the tool windows and even the
ribbon bar. To do so, use the maximize working area
button. This mode removes all of the clutter which may distract you from writing.
Formatting for submission to literary agents
If you are writing in English you should always use Times New Roman 12pt as the
font for submission to literary agents. You can change the default font in the preferences dialog.
When you start a new chapter the paragaph style is set to double-line spacing, left-aligned
with a first line indent of 0.5". This is the way literary agents prefer to
receive your manuscript. You should ensure that all - or all relevant - paragraphs
in your novel are formatted this way before submitting to a literary agent, unless
you have a specific reason for not doing so. The chapter heading is center-aligned
with double-line spacing and no first line indent.

To format paragraphs use the paragraph button which brings up the paragraph formatting
dialog box.

The default (and preferred) settings for submission to literary agents for the paragraph
dialog box are as follows:
