To display this dialog box, click the preferences button which is located at the
bottom of the MyNovel application menu and at
the top right of the MyNovel workspace.

The preferences dialog box allows you to configure start-up preferences, language
options (including spell-checking language) and file-save options. As such, when
you display the preferences dialog box it contains three tabs which are detailed
below. Once you are happy any changes you have made you should click the OK
button. If you have changed your mind and do not want to save your changes, you
should click the Cancel button.
Main preferences tab
This tab enables you to chance the start-up options and to specify the default font
face used for all new text that you add to your novel.
Unchecking Show splash screen when starting MyNovel avoids showing the Splash
Screen every time you start MyNovel.
Checking Automatically open last novel when starting MyNovel is useful when
you are continually working on one novel and want to open it every time you start
MyNovel.
Checking Remember location and size of the MyNovel window causes MyNovel
to appear in the same place on your screen, maximized or restored, every time you
start MyNovel.
Setting the default font face and default font size causes this font
face and size to be used, by default, for the text editor within MyNovel. While
Times New Roman, size 12, is the defacto standard for submission to English-speaking
literary agents and publishers, it may not suit your purposes if you are writing,
for instance, in Hebrew.
You can also specify the action to take when opening a chapter for editing.
The options are jump to last caret position, jump to end of chapter or jump to start
of chapter. Jump to last caret position means that the chapter will automatically
jump to the location where you were last editing.
Tick the used tabbed text editor view checkbox in order to open more than
one chapter at a time. This is a personal preference which you may or may not choose
to use.
Manuscript formatting tab
Set the manuscript formatting options. These options are used when you right click
on the text of a chapter choose 'standard manuscript format', which reformats
the entire text of the current chapter in the format expected by literary agents
and publishers. They are also used in the print preview
options dialog if you choose to format your text before printing.
Language and spell checking tab
This tab is split into two parts. The first part, user interface, allows
you to change the language that MyNovel uses for all of it's dialog boxes and
buttons. If you leave Infer user interface language from computer's regional
settings checked (which you probably should) then MyNovel will use the closest
matching language available. If your language is not yet available yet, it will
display the user interface in English. If you wish to translate MyNovel (or this
help file) into your language please contact us.
The second part, spell checking and thesaurus allows you to control the operation
and language of the spell checker and seperately the language of the thesaurus.
We have quite a number of languages available for spell-checking, considerably fewer
available for the thesaurus.
If you leave Check spelling as you type checked MyNovel will underline all
mispelled words as you type.
If you leave Spell checking language is the same as the user interface language
checked (which you should) then MyNovel will use the closest spell-checking language
available for your computer. Alternatively, you can choose one of the supplied spell-checking
languages. There are many more available than are initially listed. To list more
click the more languages button. Click here for more
information on the more languages dialog box.
Image thumbnails tab
The final tab controls how MyNovel deals with thumbnails - for instance in picture
strips (in the event, character, place and thing property sheets and wizards) and
in diagrams.
If you leave save image thumbnails inside MyNovel files then thumbnails will
be saved inside your .myn file when you save it. This has a few advantages
and one disadvantage. The advantages are: (a) picture strips and diagrams
will load more quickly (b) you can copy your .myn file between computers without
copying all of the images that you have referenced along with it. The disadvantge
is: your .myn file will be considerably larger.
