Planning a novel with MyNovel
When committing to writing a novel, some people like to jump right in and write
away until the small hours - with little knowledge about where the book is going
to take them well into the writing process. MyNovel will accommodate that kind of
writer very well. MyNovel includes a full word processor, and will allow the writer
to jot down notes (either against characters, settings, or events) or on corkboards
/ diagrams. When the writer invents a character, the character can be added to the
manuscript as the writer goes along. Similarly places, objects and events.
Other writers prefer much more structure than that, and MyNovel can help in this
way too. There are professional writers who plan and those who don't, however there
will be less work revising and rewriting your novel if you plan in advance. We advocate
this method strongly for those who have not written a novel before - it is a large
undertaking after all, almost on par with building a house (and imagine building
a house with no plans!)
MyNovel will act as a story binder, binding the blocks of your story (your characters,
your settings, your objects, and your happenings / events) together. It will enable
you to plan your novel down to the finest detail before you begin writing.
The advantages of planning are manifold: (a) you will be familiar with your characters
before you write, you will understand their relationships and family background;
(b) due to familiarity to you will write consistently reducing the need for rewrites;
(c) just like planning in the real world, everything will fit together better; (d)
you will be able to identify redundancy in your work more easily, i.e. parts of
your manuscript which aren't necessary to tell the whole story (e) you'll save yourself
an incredible amount of time!
