Novel writing tips
Here are some tips on how to write a novel and get it published
Research your market
Read everything you can within the genre you intend to write. Submerge yourself
in your genre. If you don't know your genre, get yourself to your local library
or book store and get a feel for the kind of thing you intend to write.
Just start writing!
If you're not sure what the plot is going to be, just get something written down.
You may discard or rewrite your initial draft later on, but just get going.
Make your first page interesting!
If your first page is boring the rest of your book was never worth writing. You've
wasted a whole year of your life!
Plan your book
Once you know what you're writing, plan your book. Story is a very important component
of your book. You can write a successful novel without 'story' but it is very much
more difficult. Use novel writing software like MyNovel to plan your story and get
to know your characters.
Write something every single day
Writing is a long slog. A novel is rarely written in a few days. It is usually written
a page at a time or - if you are extremely industrious - a chapter at a time. Whatever
you do, never put your novel to one side and think you will come back to it in a
week or month or so. It won't happen.
Choose a great title
Your novel should have a great title. It's the first thing people will know about
your novel. It should be catchy and attract your reader's attention.
Don't be inhibited
Basically, write for this day and age. Inhibited writing will stultify your
novel. Depending on your genre, and your target age group, be as graphic as you
need to be [but no more!]
