New novelist? MyNovel will help you to write a novel
If you are a new novelist, our novel writing software can help you to plan, structure
and write a novel. You may have tried to begin a novel many times in the past, faltering
after the first page or the first forty pages. MyNovel will give you the impetus
to fulfil your ambition and complete the novel you have been dying to write.
Define your characters and settings
When you begin to write a novel, the first thing you are likely to think about is
the main character (i.e. the protagonist); then you will think about his or her
adversaries; and his or her helpers; then you will think about the settings for
your characters to come into conflict of some sort. MyNovel includes character,
setting, and object questionnaires whereby you add a character, setting or object
to your novel. The questionnaires (which you can customise) get you to fully think
through the personality, appearance, emotional make-up of your characters, the feel
and location of the settings they will appear in and so on. You can also associate
research (e.g. web pages you may have found, or documents you may have scanned)
and pictures with your characters and settings. Having completed this stage you
can be sure that everything you subsequently write about the characters and settings
you have defined will be free from contradiction.
Plan your events and scenes
Given you now have a collection of settings and characters, the next thing to do
is to plan the structure and chronological order of the key scenes of your novel.
To do so, you add key scenes / events to your novel, define who is present and what
roles they take. If you struggle with this stage, MyNovel includes built-in
novel writing templates which you can use as the basis and structure of
your novel.
Write the first draft of your novel
Finally, armed with all the planning that you have already done (planning which
you will find fun, I assure you!) you are ready to all of the writing blocks together
and write your novel. MyNovel includes a full-featured word processor where you
can write your novel. It also includes tools where you can measure your progress.
And also tools to measure the readability of your text. For instance, if you are
writing for children you need to measure the reading age of your text to make sure
you are writing at an appropriate level.
Prune and rewrite your novel
Once you have completed the first draft of your novel - which you should try to
do as quickly as possible, you need to go back and prune and rewrite any parts of
your novel you are not happy with. Again you have all of the planning information
at hand in order to avoid introducing contradictions at this stage.
Submit to a literary agent / publisher
MyNovel includes tools to record the literary agents and publishers you have submitted
to. In addition the MyNovel.biz website includes lists of literary agents who may
accept your work.
