Book writing help
Almost everyone has a secret, or not so secret, desire to write a book. Some folks
want to write their memoirs, other mystery novels, others novels about romance.
However books do not write themselves. They are the product of much planning and
hard work.
Plan your book
This is the most important step of all - and where book writing software such as
Mynovel can help. Without planning, you are unlikely to create a worthwhile piece
of fiction. Alongside planning, it is also important to ask yourself 'why am I qualified
to write this book?' and 'is there a market for it?' The best way to decide whether
you should embark upon writing a book is to write a book proposal, or initial synopsis.
Not only will this help you to think about what you are going to write but it will
also provide some of the material you will use later in the writing process.
Write your book
Armed with all of the planning that you have done within MyNovel and without, you
can now write you book. To write effectively you should try to write in plain language
without embellishment. Using rare words which force your reader to refer to the
dictionary every five minutes does not prove your intelligence or level of writing
skill. Your language and indeed your personality (unless you are writing in the
first person) should be transparent. And any surprise, any twist at the ending of
your novel, should be done within the confines of clear English.
Contact a literary agent
It is rare these days to get your book published by contacting a publisher directly.
Publishers rely on and trust literary agents to filter out work with no business
merit. Remember while writing may be your love in life, publishing is primarily
a business. You are creating a product which will be marketed, generating
revenue for yourself, your literary agent, your publisher, distributors, book shops
- an array of people most of whom you will never meet. Your publisher will need
to have sufficient belief that they can make money from your work. They have the
most to lose if it fails to sell.
